Simple question that I think bears a lot of importance. I do make my bed each morning and require my daughter to do the same. It starts my day and sets me in a mindset of getting a task finished (likely easiest of the day) and organization.
Organization is a hallmark for accountants. I have always been in the mindset that organization means different things to different people. Accounting is easy and difficult to keep organized. Easy to start a process to funnel the data and difficult when there is an exception that requires more thinking. Often times accounts payable (“a/p”) personnel are great at processing, but the good a/p personnel can articulate the exception and what went wrong with the associated impacts. I suspect a likely metaphor would be the knowledge transition from a staff to senior accountant in public accounting.
I took a poll on my Twitter & Facebook accounts based on the above question. As of this post, the results are 82% ‘yes.’ What kind of accountant do you want to be – an organized one that can solve problems!
A good book on this topic and the power of habits is (The Power of Habit: What we do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg).
